Categories: Food and Wines Articles - Monday, 19 September 2011

Fall is here and with it the warm weather, changing leaves and fall festivals. Nestled in the southwestern part of Illinois is Union County where the annual Color Fest is held. Color Fest runs from October 8th through the 10th with amazing array of activities that showcase all the county has to offer.

It will take a full weekend to cover all the events and sample all the wares. Union County is tucked away in the Shawnee National Forest and sits atop some of the prettiest hills around. The area is renowned for its orchards and vineyards and several will be participating in the festivities with samples of their wares and demonstrations.

If you've never visited Union County, Color Fest is the perfect time. The temperatures are mild and with the Shawnee National Forest ablaze in color, you will feel like you've entered another world. Take in the scenery, sample some wine and take home some apples, mums and pumpkins. And if you need more to entice you to visit one of my favorite counties in Illinois, check out some of the events going on that weekend.
