Descrizione

This vine was introduced in the Volsini Mountains by the Etruscans, who had acquired it from the Greeks. It was known as “Liatico of Crete” for its early ripening and for use in the production of aromatic wine. Its presence in central Italy seems to date back to several centuries ago: in Tuscany De Crescenzi mentions it as early as 1300, in the description of “Livatica”, whose name derives from the synonyms “Liatico” or “Liatica.
It also appears in the “Treatise on the wines of Italy”, by Sante Lacerio: “red wine full of color and better than Gradole’e’ Caves”.
Most recent, 1875, is the description that appears in the Ampelographic Bulletin description of the varieties of the province of Rome: “Aleatico, also known as Allian: from clay-limestone soils, perhaps inept to develop to perfection the best qualities of this delicious variety …”.

Harvested at full ripeness during the first days of September, the grapes are dried on racks, to direct sunlight for a week. Followed by stripping and maceration for five days. Wine making, in the wake of the wines of Mediterranean islands, gives the wine a strong character and great personality.

Consistent color and quite deep, with the typical nuances of sweet wines, aggressive scent, rich primary aromas, flowers and fruit, slightly caramelized. The mouth feel has great complexity in the succession of fruit and jam. The final sensations are of great balance between sweet and acidity, with a savory component.

Alcoholic fermentation takes place at 26-28 ° C in steel tanks. The aging of 12-14 months in French oak barrels for 2 nd and 3 rd step is completed in the bottle for a period of 4 / 6 months.

Intense ruby red color with garnet, the nose stands for notes of dried fruit and jam The mouth is soft, round, warm.

It matches with chocolate desserts. Also appropriate as a meditation wine. Serve at 14° C.

This wine is made exclusively from Aleatico grapes, produced in very limited quantities.
